Black Master Teachers

Black Master Teachers Take Charge! is a group of highly experienced elementary school teachers who are responding to the inability of the nation’s public schools to teach Black children basic reading and writing skills to any level of excellence.

These teachers have been recognized as master teachers. The main strand of the work of this group is the creation of an on-line video library with more than 100 short “How-To” videos. The initial collection focuses on kindergarten through third grade students.

In these videos, using step-by-step directions and easy-to-obtain teaching materials, these teachers model Augusta Mann’s research-based culture-centered “Touching the Spirit” lessons for accelerating the mastery of phonics, reading fluency, academic vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing skills.

These videos can be used by anyone to guide young children in the development of these essential literacy skills to high levels of achievement.
